August... Hearts on Fire
Monday, August 14, 2017

I was so inspired this morning by reading ‘May I Have This Dance’ by Joyce Rupp, that I felt the need to share my thoughts. It got me to thinking about neglecting “The Emmaus Quest’ which is near and dear to my heart. I have been in a stagnate place over the past couple of months feeling no direction ,and forgetting to be in prayer about it. Life’s been getting in the way. It’s not a good excuse, but that’s just how it’s been.

Reading the chapter on the month of August, led me to reminiscing about the cool evenings in the latter phase of summer. As Joyce puts it, sitting before a campfire on a cool August night can be a very contemplative experience. When new wood is placed on the burning embers, it sparks new flames. This kind of reminds me of myself lately. I feel that it's time to put some new wood on the embers. It's time to re-stoke the fire…more studying, more practice, more praying, more alone time with God.

Before all this thing called life got in the way, I was more at one with the Divine. I need to get back there. I am so grateful that today's reading inspired me. I love where Joyce talks about the road to Emmaus. I love the story which is why I named my website after it.

The two disciples on the road were sad because their spiritual fire had all but burned out. In their encounter with Jesus, the flame was sparked again. As they recognized this rekindling they exclaimed, “Were not our hearts burning within us?” Filled with delight they went back to share the news with the others.

I feel like this today. I feel inspired again. I want to be at one with the Divine again. Practicing spiritual disciplines keeps us closer to the Divine, which makes Him closer to us, which keeps Him always by our side.

I am ready again for my heart to burn with the fire of God I’m ready again to make the time to do this. I’m ready again to spark new flames! Thanks for the inspiration Joyce.
